Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Wusthof Grand Prix 10-Inch Cook's KnifeCustomer Review: Big Wonderful Knife Summary: 5 Stars
I love this knife. As far as kitchen "gadgets" go, a good knife is the MOST important thing in your kitchen. Here are some things to consider before getting this knife:
1) Make sure the 10" is the right size for you. I am 6'2" - for me, the 10" is comfortable.
2) Prepare to sharpen. This was my first "real" knife, and I had to learn how to sharpen and hone the blade. It's not too hard, but these are definitely tasks that will need to be done to keep this "sword" in tip-top condition.
3) It's heavy - you might want to touch one at a kitchen store before jumping-in with both feet.
If this is your first "real" knife purchase, and you've never really used a chef knife before, I'd recommend the 8". But, if you're ready and willing to heft it, the 10" has served me well for 2+ years.
Also, it can easily multi-task as a "murder knife."
Description of Wusthof Grand Prix 10-Inch Cook's KnifeIf you could only pack one knife for your trip to a desert island, this would be it! The 10-inch cook's knife from Wüsthof's premier line, Grand Prix, is the most versatile knife in the kitchen. Use it for anything from mincing onions and garlic to slicing meat or fish to cutting up any size of vegetables or fruit. The curved blade allows you to rock it back and forth, making mincing and chopping effortless. Professional chefs often use this impressive knife for mincing even small things like garlic or basil for pesto--you'll reach for it again and again. Wüsthof's Grand Prix line improves upon its Classic line by adding an ergonomically designed handle and a contemporary look. Each Grand Prix implement is forged by hand from a single piece of high-quality carbon steel, using a 38-step process. A full tang--a single piece of steel from the tip of the knife to the end of the handle--gives each piece a balanced feel, superior strength, and lifetime durability. Peer into the private kitchens of professional chefs, and chances are you'll see Wüsthof knives. Wüsthof-Trident understands the art of the knife. --Amy Adams
